Types of Learners!/Miscellaneous
Hi Guyss!!! I hope everyone has a good week! For this week's blog post, I finally found the time to create an actual miscellaneous and informative post! But we'll jump into that later! :)
In other news, let's talk a bit about Faces of Silicon Valley! Can I just say--I love working for Faces of Silicon Valley! I love coming up with blog posts for all my readers every week--readers who I'm very grateful for! For my Current Viewers/Readers: Wowwww! I'm so excited to see how we've grown! We've had over 600 page visits, and at least 300 visitors! I'm so grateful to everyone for supporting my website. I do hope you'll tell all your friends about the wonderful community that continues to grow, here at Faces of Silicon Valley! And, please sign up for an interview! It doesn't matter your age, identity, job, or background. Even if you have nothing to share, and just want to share your experience using our website, we'll be happy to interview you. You matter, your story matters, your thoughts and beliefs matter! :)
All you have to do is contact us using our interview application process: https://forms.gle/CAGsioU2V2QaLeCo8 or using our Contact Us Page!
2) Interviews!! I'm so thankful to everyone who has aided me in my interview processes. A lot of people have supported me, by offering to complete interviews. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to meet more people and learn their stories! In fact, I have two-three interviews in the making right now! The interviews for the months of December are coming shortly! Interviews are completed, now I'll just need to type up a summary! :)
3) So I've been posting some community project for Faces of Silicon Valley on previous blog posts, so comment if you want to join on those or learn more about them! We are currently in the process of developing a monthly broadcasting service, for Faces of Silicon Valley, it'll share the new for each month, so we don't need to take up space in the blog posts for news! :)
3) Now, let's delve into this week's topic: learninggggg!!! If you haven't already discovered it yet, check out our blog post on the evolution of language. There I dropped hints of sharing this blog post, and here it is! Of course, this week's blog post will include one of my infamous "Random Facts!" feature! So, look out for that! Reminder: also remember to respond to our comment prompts!

Types of Learners; Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic, & Maybe You're All of Them?
We've all been sitting in that one classroom: staring blankly at a textbook, to a lecture that sounds like gibberish, or struggling to grasp a concept that everyone else seems to understand, perfectly. We may think that there's problems with the way we learn, the we we're taught, or in the resources around us. The truth? There is no problem, just diversity, because the truth is, we all learn differently. Understanding your learnings style can be a game-change, and will help you learn more efficiently and understand better! Which is why this blog post is kind of a "personality quiz" in a way but at the same time it's pretty informative! So as I provide information on the type of learners, take notes to assess yourself at the end. So the three most commonly recognized learning styles are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. So let's dive in and learn more!
1) Auditory Learners: Learning Through Sound
If you find yourself easily remembering song lyric, enjoying discussions, or benefiting from listening to podcast, you might be an auditory learner. For auditory learners, they learn best when information is presented through sound.
- Characteristics of Auditory Learners:
- Learn best by listening: Lectures, discussions, and audio recordings are their preferred methods.
- Enjoy verbal instructions: They easily follow spoken directions.
- Benefit from repetition: Saying things aloud helps them solidify information.
- Strong verbal communication skills: They often excel in discussions and presentations.
- May be distracted by noise: A quiet environment is essential for focused learning.
- Tips for Auditory Learners:
- Record lectures: Listen to them repeatedly.
- Study with a partner: Discuss concepts and explain them to each other.
- Use mnemonic devices: Create rhymes or songs to remember information.
- Read aloud: Even when studying alone, reading material aloud can be beneficial.
- Listen to podcasts or audiobooks: Utilize these resources to supplement learning.
2) Visual Learners: Learning Through Sight
Do you prefer diagrams, charts, and written instructions? Do you remember faces but forget names? The opposite of prosopagnosia, which we'll dive into in another miscellaneous blog post, but if you forget names but remember faces, you might be a visual learner. Visual learners grasp information best when it's presented visually.
- Characteristics of Visual Learners:
- Prefer visual aids: Diagrams, charts, graphs, and videos are essential.
- Learn best from written information: Textbooks, handouts, and notes are their preferred resources.
- Strong sense of color and spatial relationships: They often excel in subjects like art and design.
- Benefit from note-taking: Visualizing information helps them retain it.
- May struggle with purely auditory presentations: They need to see the information to understand it.
- Tips for Visual Learners:
- Use mind maps and diagrams: Organize information visually.
- Take detailed notes: Use colors and highlighting to emphasize key points.
- Watch educational videos: Visual presentations enhance understanding.
- Use flashcards: Visual aids for memorization.
- Visualize concepts: Create mental images to reinforce learning.
Special Note: So for me, I'm kind of a mix of auditory and visual. My predominant way of learning is through visuals, and that's probably why I've enjoyed geometry more than algebra, but I do like to sing. So occasionally, I'll use mnemonics (we'll get into that in another miscellaneous blog post! :D) and songs to remember/study concepts for important tests.
3. Kinesthetic Learners: Learning Through Doing
If you find yourself fidgeting during lectures, enjoying hands-on activities, or learning best by doing, you might be a kinesthetic learner. Kinesthetic learners learn through physical activity and practical experience.
- Characteristics of Kinesthetic Learners:
- Learn best by doing: Hands-on activities, experiments, and role-playing are effective.
- Prefer physical movement: They may fidget, pace, or tap their feet while learning.
- Benefit from practical applications: They need to see how information relates to real-world situations.
- May struggle with long periods of sitting: They need frequent breaks and movement.
- Excel in activities involving physical skills: They often enjoy sports, dance, and crafts.
- Tips for Kinesthetic Learners:
- Take frequent breaks: Incorporate movement into study sessions.
- Engage in hands-on activities: Experiments, simulations, and role-playing enhance learning.
- Use manipulatives: Physical objects can help visualize and understand concepts.
- Act out concepts: Use body movements to reinforce learning. (i.e dancing)
- Study while moving: Walk, pace, or use a standing desk.
Side Note: So I actually learned about the different types of learners when watching popular kids television series: Bunk'd. In one of the episodes, main character Parker played by Trevor Tordjman is studying to become an American citizen. At first, he's having a lot of trouble and he can't focus. But as a dancer, his friends encourage him to come up with different dance moves for different aspects of American history. That's when they briefly mention types of learners since Parker is obviously a kinesthetic learner. So that was a little tidbit, and if any of you need a bit of a childhood watching recommendation; check out Bunk'd!
Finding Your Learning Style
It's important to remember that most people are a combination of learning styles. While one style may dominate, incorporating elements from other styles can create a more well-rounded learning experience.
- Self-reflection: Pay attention to how you learn best.
- Online quizzes: Many online quizzes can help identify your learning style.
- Experimentation: Try different study techniques and see what works best.
Understanding your learning style is a powerful tool for academic and professional success. By tailoring your learning strategies to your strengths, you can unlock your full potential and make learning a more enjoyable and effective process.
But before we wrap up, I have to things to discuss:
1) Online Quiz!!!
2) Comment Prompt!!!
3) Other Platforms!!!!
Sooo, based on my research I actually created a Google Forms quiz that will help you determine which type of learner you are. It is my first attempt, so any appropriate feedback is appreciated! :)
Here's the link: https://forms.gle/gvWDR91Mixo978Qm7
Next week's blog post will consist of showing users how to create a quiz online with a program, it'll be broken into two parts;
1) The EASY & TEDIOUS Way.
2) THE FUN, CHALLENGING, & INTRICATE WAY!
But before signing off, check out the comment prompt:
1) What type of learner are you? How did you discover you're type of learning?
2) How did you discover Faces of Silicon Valley?
3) Best learning experience ever, and why! (learning environment, teacher, subject, etc.)
4) Check out Faces of Silicon Valley Projects, mentioned on Week-26 and right here
1) Blog post about phobias?
2) I'm working on creating a "weekly broadcast" to go along with the Faces of Silicon Valley News! Any ideas or tips! I've already built the "Pilot," episode on Canva, but I'm looking to see better, free platforms to create it on! As of now, I'm just including the usual news, but let me know if you guys would enjoy funny tidbits. At our school, we have a weekly broadcast and sometimes there are funny things included like campus questions. So I was thinking, I could feature the top three comments from the previous week's blog posts, and use that. Also, if we go further into this project, how man of you would enjoy having the video links embedded within the blog posts, or would you prefer a separate page for these "episodes?" So many questions! I might send out a poll to our weekly readers.
3) How can I make the "news," bit of our website more exciting and appealing, so more readers tend to check that part out more?
4) Any feedback or advice on the poem? Remember be CONSTRUCTIVE & APPRORIATE! :)
If you have any writing you'd like our team to take a look at it, send it to us, using the Contact Us Page, or if you're more comfortable, just comment it down below! :)
5) Blog topics! Ideas needed! If you've ever seen Mystery Science Videos, should I do something similar to that? Like at the end of my "episodes," should I send out a poll, and you guys choose the top three topics, you'd like a blog post about? Let me know in the comments! :)
* Remember comments can be submitted under an anonymous user name, and as long as comments are appropriate your personal information will NEVER be reported. We will only use our information to contact or connect further with you! So feel free to chat in the comments and leave your thoughts! :)
Check this out on my other platforms! :)
