Author's Note: So this poem, is kind of a school day, poem! I wrote this on a Tuesday, after events that happened on a Sunday and a Monday. On that Sunday, I had such a fun time hanging out with some family! On Monday, I received a insufficient score for me, on my math test and I literally ran home crying. Both days, the sun was shining bright-eyed ready to sprinkle it's golden light all over the California roads, where I live. On Monday, I felt VERY different than on Sunday. So I decided to write this poem to convey the HUUGEEE contrast in my emotions when glancing at the golden sun. Enjoy!
The Sun:
The golden, bright, vibrant sun,
shines throughout the day.
It shines brightly on the first day of school.
It shines brightly when I look up at the sky, coming home to a surprise.
It lingers on throughout the day,
even when I run outside to play.
The golden, bright, vibrant sun,
shines throughout the day.
It shines when I walk home weeping because I don’t feel well.
It shines when I come home moping because I didn’t do well.
It lingers on throughout the day,
trying to make me smile.
It makes me smile even when
I’m miserable.
The golden, bright, vibrant sun,
shines through the day.
It shines brightly when I come home,
cheerful and marvelous.
It shines brightly,
even when everything’s a mess.
The golden bright vibrant sun,
shines through the day.
All I have to do,
is look up at the sky,
and I know all will be okay.

Hey Guys! It's me, again! I hope you guys enjoyed that! Now it's time for our random fact! So this week's random fact, is kind of like a writing tip for poets. When writing, it's okay to have a lot of jumbled and mixed up thoughts! That's okay! Just let it all spill out! My best poems come when I'm in the moment, and I spill out my thoughts. My Scholastic Honorable Mention Poem of the Western Region (2023) actually was a poem I spilled out in the moment. I wrote the poem in a moving car on my phone on my Notes App, because what I was feeling meant so much to me. Writing is a way for me to sort out my thoughts, so spilling everything out helped me and it helped my writing! Spilling out what you're feeling, is authentic. Our audiences love authenticity! They want to relate to you! You can do this by sharing the truth, sharing how you TRULY feel! So believe it or not, but that was actually PART ONE of this week's RANDOM FACT!
PART TWO:
If you really dissect this poem, I want you to think about the sound of the poem, and how it looks on the page. Do you notice the repetition of the "Golden Vibrant Sun" do you notice the inexplicit contrast between my emotions when thinking of the sun? Notice how all the stanzas are a similar length. Finally, notice how I tried making some words rhyme, for instance take a look at "weeping" and "moping," what did that rhyme put in your minds? So as you think about this, I want you to comment your thoughts. Let's make this a comment prompt, and I want to find out your thoughts. Then I want you to write your own tips or ideas on conveying a poem in a way that it "sounds" appealing. And as always, feel free to comment your thoughts, ideas, and anything appropriate that you want to share! For instance, if you have ideas on how to improve my writing, feel free to comment your ideas, and we can work together to curate a beautiful piece of writing! Happy Writing & Reading Everyone!!!
P.S-If you want to check this piece of writing on other writing platforms, feel free to read it on my Young Writers' Project Blog & My Medium Blog!
